JANUARY 2026: The SKALE of Luxury

Welcome to the first 2026 edition.

We open the year with a spotlight on the Australian Open, a cultural and commercial moment that continues to evolve far beyond sport. This season and more than ever before, Melbourne Park has become a true multi-sensory canvas, elevating fashion and experiential standards.

As consumer confidence remains fragile and spending patterns continue to shift, moments like these provide valuable signals on where attention, experience and emotional connection are increasingly driving value.

Australia's Luxury Market Pulse

Local currency has reached a three-year high, with the Australian dollar strengthening against a weakening US dollar. While this supports domestic consumers and import-led businesses through improved purchasing power, it places pressure on export competitiveness.

Retail is set to hit record levels in December, with global luxury jewellery and lifestyle brands in particular benefiting from strong pre- and post-Christmas momentum.

The Australian Open, a premium lifestyle platform

With nearly 1.5 million visitors and 2 billion global viewers, the AO continues to be a powerful amplifier of brand equity, where sports meets fashion, lifestyle and immersive experiences.

It has become a strategic platform for many luxury brands securing multi-year sponsorships and court-side visibility: Rolex (timekeeper since 2008), Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, Marriott-Bonvoy...

From increasingly elevated court-side fashion to a growing influencer presence, the 2026 edition confirms a shift we saw emerge a couple of years ago: the AO is no longer just a sporting event, it is fast becoming a fully fledged premium lifestyle platform.

Coming up!

Vogue "Forces of Fashion" coming to Sydney for the first time on February 13th, 2026 with high-profile celebrities Hailey Bieber, Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi and many more.

Ritz-Carlton Lodge is set to open in the Blue Mountains, taking over the former Wolgan Valley resort after renovation and re-managment.

Until next time,

The SKALE Australia team
